163 Salisbury Road
Blandford, Dorset

This new house is a demonstration of energy efficient housing for the future.

The ability to use the levels of the site to accommodate a basement also enables the thermal capacity of the ground to be exploited. The house uses high thermal mass to enable the control of daily and seasonal temperature swings.

A two storey high conservatory is also incorporated on the southern elevation to enable use of passive solar energy. Door openings into the conservatory allow solar energy to work its way up into each level of the main house.

Many environmental features are utilised, such as natural ventilation and heat recovery, underfloor heating, solar water heating and rainwater recycling.

Shorlisted for the Daily Telegraph Homebuilding & Renovating Awards 2004.
