Stanbridge Earls School
Romsey, Hampshire
Stanbridge Earls School is a co-educational special school for pupils with learning difficulties. The project was won on a limited design competition for masterplanning the entire school campus.
CDT Block: Designed in the vein of an elegant industrial type building with a high level of thermal performance, the internal areas are naturally lit from a series of north opening clerestory windows to ensure good environmental conditions.
Classroom Block: Continuing the same theme as the CDT block, a lightweight timber structure is utilised to help achieve a high level of thermal performance. Classrooms are naturally lit from high level clerestorey windows. The resulting spaces are light and airy environments ideal for teaching and learning.
COMMENDED in 2002 by the Downland Prize for Architects in RIBA (South and South East regions)
