Swanmore Primary School

This significant new extension and refurbishment of an existing Primary School was completed in December 2005, with a contract value of £1.3 million.

The project consists of 7 new Classrooms, Music Room, Library, Group Work areas and ancillary spaces. The existing school was also extensively re-planned and refurbished.

The main class spaces are given plenty of volume, with glazing at both low and high level to allow natural light to dominate. Direct access to the outside is afforded to each classroom, with overhanging eaves forming covered play areas.

The materials used in the construction were chosen to reflect the rural and agricultural nature of the surrounding area. Walls are larglely timber clad and roofs lightweight profiled roof sheeting, as utilised throughout the countryside for farm sheds and barns.
